We’ve just shipped Nucleo v2.4.2, which includes performance improvements, a new Proxy feature for team and individuals that were having issues downloading our icons due to protected networks, as well as additional UI/UX improvements for teams. Besides, our premium icon library keeps getting better with the massive update of the Sport icon category.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s new in the app:

• You can now narrow search results using % and ! at the beginning or end of search keywords.
• Importing icons is now 2x faster
• UX/UI improvements for teams.

Smart search using symbols

We’ve been asked many times to develop a way to integrate symbols to make finding icons easier and smarter. We just did it! Here’s how search works in Nucleo 2.4.2:

• simply enter a keyword → the app shows icons whose title + tags start with the entered keyword → e.g., if you enter search the app shows icons containing the tags search and searching but not lens-search.
• % + keyword → the app shows all icons containing the entered keyword within their title and tags. → e.g., if you enter %car the app shows icons containing the tags cars and scarf.
• keyword + ! → the app shows only icons containing the exact keyword within their title or tags. → e.g., if you enter car! the app shows icons containing the tags car but not scarf or cars.

Importing icons is 2x faster

With each new release, we focus on a specific performance aspect. This time we worked to improve the importing process. The results of our optimization have been great, with importing icons being 2x faster compared to the previous app version!

Here’s an example of how smooth it is importing the fontAwesome icons in Nucleo:

New proxy option

You can now use a proxy to download the Nucleo icons. This option (accessible on the settings page of the app) enables teams that use a protected network to trigger the download of the 20K Nucleo icons.

Sport icons

We continuously create new icons, focusing on one category at a time! The latest update brings tons of new sport icons. We also published a tutorial on how to create the new human-figure icons included in the update.

Each update is automatically uploaded to the app, and it’s free! You can follow our progress on our new icons page.

The updated sport category includes:

✅ 178 unique icon concepts
✅ 92 new icon concepts added with the latest update
✅ A total of 1887 assets across all styles and sizes

What’s next

We’re working on another minor release, focused on UX improvements. Nothing major, but some long due fixes that our power users will appreciate. After that, we start planning the next big step…stay tuned for some cool stuff!
